Long Island Woman Found Running In Traffic Assaults Officer, Police Say

A Long Island woman was charged with assault after she was found running in traffic and then fought with police who attempted to arrest her.

The incident took place in Nassau County around 10 a.m., Monday, June 5 in Carle Place.

According to Nassau County Police detectives, Xiana Brave, age 22, of the hamlet of Searingtown, was running in the middle of traffic near the vicinity of 286 Glen Cove Road. 

Police attempted to assist Brave, but she became combative and a struggle ensued. The officer attempted to place her into custody and sustained injuries, as Brave was violent and combative while resisting arrest, police said.

Brave was eventually subdued and it was later determined that she had been involved in a domestic incident with her aunt and took her car without permission and then fled the scene of a crash, detectives added.

The injured officer was transported to a local area hospital for treatment.

Brave was charged with:

  • Assault
  • Unlawful imprisonment 
  • Grand larceny
  • Leaving the scene of an Incident
  • Reckless endangerment 
  • Resisting arrest 
  • Reckless driving. 

She will be arraigned on Tuesday, June 6, in Hempstead.
